"With them the Seed of Wisdom did I sow, And with my own hand labour'd it to
grow" (Omar Khayyam)
Six years ago, a group of bewildered travelers was introduced to a strange new
environment. Here dwelled a highly advanced society, ruled by a strict code of con-
formity which at once perplexed the newcomers. Many citizens were contemptuous of
the meddlesome immigrants, but one man was unique in generating warmth and en-
His unashamed patriotism, his keen sense of humor, his hearty enthusiasm, and
unselfish participation in numerous activities won the respect and admiration of all.
His leadership inspired an eagerness for knowledge and his common sense produced
compromise from chaos. When it came time for enlightened travelers to move on, they
examined the teachings of this man, and each found a valuable message.
As an expression of gratitude for an association we shall always cherish, the class
of 1965 respectfully dedicates its yearbook to you, Mr. Edward F. Sheehan.

One of my best days was when I knew I was coming to the United
States as an A.F.S. student. Another important part of my life was
about to begin.
I found everything I expected and even more; in time I reached a
point when I felt I belonged here.
A happy stay for an A.F.S.'er depends mostly on the amount of
adjustment he makes and understanding he gets. Life was made easier
for me by the help of people of this nice community, and principally
by the help of people with whom I had more close contact: my
American family, the other students and the members of the A.F.S.
I hope I was able to give the little I had, because life and lasting
friendship consist not only of taking but of giving as well.
To all of you, alerigado.

I do not think I could ever have another experience equal
to my A.F.S. summer in Brazil. It gave me many heartwarming
memories, and I shall always be grateful to the people of
Cohasset for making it possible. I have never seen and felt
and learned so much. I only wish that everyone could share
the rewards which my A.F.S. summer gave to me.
